Complete Wombat Results for the 2020 Boeing Classic Provincial Championships.
Below are the complete results for our groups wonderful performances last weekend (February 28-29, 2020).
Wombats ‘Round the World !
Wombats current and former ran great races this weekend (February 14-15, 2020) in Sioux Falls, Boston, Seattle, Pocatello, and one in France (Elisa Tripotin won the Alsace Regional Cross Country Championships). * indicates a personal best!
Bison Classic 2020 Results
Below are the Bison Classic Results…. notable are the times for Margrett Watt who won both of her races against university competition as a high school student. As always, an asterisk indicates a personal best. The performances were excellent across the board with personal bests all over the 1000m and 1500m races with several in the 600m and one in the 300m. Most impressive!
Award Winning Wombats at the 2019 AM Awards Banquet!
Wombats wowed at the 2019 Athletics Manitoba Awards Banquet held Friday, November 15, 2019. Congratulations go out to the following proud marsupials!
Along with the award-winners above, Margrett Watt, Jennie Barager-Petrash, Josh Samyn, Jack Taylor, William Boyle, Trey Friesen, and Josh Lacroix were nominated for awards in other categories. Excellent showing by the group!
NXR Heartland Regional XC (Sioux Falls, SD. November 10, 2019)
Many miles were logged in the drive to and from the deep south of South Dakota! The group traveled in order to compete in the Invitational Race and the Rising Stars Race portion of the Nike XR Heartland Regional XC Championships against the best the heartland had to offer in those categories!
MHSAA Cross Country Provincials (Stony Mountain Ski Area, October, 22, 2019)
On a day filled with cold, rain, sleet, and snow (no dark of night), the Wombats still delivered the mail running up a ski hill, through a quarry, on quarter-down limestone and over a narrow sand-covered bridge. Results were excellent, and are listed below. A special congratulations go out to the varsity girls who swept the medals and had a sixth place finish to take four of the top six positions. As well, Cadence Christie’s victory means a Wombat gal has stood at the top of the podium for the past ten years.
Western Canada Summer Games, Swift Current (August 15-18, 2019)
It has been a long year…. the wind howled (up to 45 kph) across the Canadian Prairies to voice its discontent with the ending of the outdoor season. Nevertheless, the Wombats had some solid results. (Asterisk indicates personal best). I still cannot believe that they allowed the Games to be held in Swift Current after they did not install a steeplechase pit when they put in the track. (and yes, that is a criticism, not an observation). This meet was for athletes born in 1999 or later, so many of the group are competing against older athletes.

2019 National Legions Royal Canadian Legion Youth Championships, Sydney NS (August 9-11, 2019)
Legion Nationals was a pretty special time; the group had eight athletes attending: five Wombats as club members and three Wombats as part of the Manitoba-Northwest Ontario Legion Command. The meet is the Canadian U18 and U16 championships, so athletes are running in their proper age category.
Results were very good with the Wombats coming away with three individual bronzes and a share of a relay bronze.

Canadian Track and Field Championships, Montréal (July 25-28, 2019)
At this meet, we had eleven athletes from the group competing. Six of them were true juniors, meaning that they turn 18 or 19 this year. Five of them were still U18. The group had two medals and some very good runs! Back in Manitoba, we seldom have to run rounds. For younger athletes we use this meet as a “next level meet,” meaning many of the U18 athletes come to this meet in order to see what’s out there. With the exception of the 3000m steeplechase and the 3000m, there were qualifying, semi’s and finals. **Personal best, provincial record; *Personal best
